10 Things You Can Do to End Gendercide

In India, China and many other parts of the world today, girls are killed, aborted and abandoned simply because they are girls. The United Nations estimates as many as 200 million girls  are missing in the world today because of this so-called “gendercide”.

Girls in India have been thrown out into garbage bins, left in fields, poisoned by their parents or abandoned in the streets, simply because they are girls.  How long will the world stand by and let this go on?

We at Girlkind are taking a stand to put an end to this huge human rights violation and change cultural values one girl at a time.  Silence is approval and that is not an option for us.

We urge you to join us in this movement and get involved, together we can begin to create a better world where EVERY GIRL MATTERS.

There are many ways you can help bring an end to Gendercide.  Small steps with big impacts.  Remaining silent just isn't an option, take a look through some of these ideas, it's easy to look away from the problem but it takes conviction to do something about it, anything. Please read on.

Top 10 Lessons to Teach About Feminism

Here is a list of top lessons to teach our sons about feminism.  These have been gathered from like minded individuals from the internet.

Top 10 Lessons

1. Feminism does not mean feminine. It means equality.

2. Being a boy doesn’t mean you can’t be a feminist. Neither does liking sports and burgers and action movies. Just like wearing jewelry and makeup, taking my husband’s last name and getting manicures doesn’t make me any less of a feminist.

3. It’s OK to cry. But as with all expressions of emotion, take care to do so in a responsible and respectful way.

4. Be friends with girls.

5. Girls can like trucks, superheroes and Stars Wars, just like boys can like princesses, tea parties and My Little Pony.

6. The phrases “like a man” and “like a girl” hold no real meaning. Ignore them.

7. A girl might look pretty, attractive, cute but true BEAUTY comes from within.

8. Surround yourself with people who invite you to be your best self. Be wary of people who want to change you.

9. Equal work deserves equal pay; equal pay requires equal work. It’s just that simple.

10. Your gender does not define you. Neither does your job or car or bank account. Be kind and brave, be a good friend and a hard worker and treat everyone with respect — those are the qualities that will define you.
