The 3rd Annual "Every Girl Matters Day"

GirlKIND recently celebrated their 3rd annual “Every Girl Matters Day,” in Abbotsford at The Reach Gallery Museum this past Sunday Oct 11, 2015. The day was officially proclaimed through the BC Legislature and Minister De Jong was on hand to mark the occasion and celebrate with the community. IWD + I Billion Rising Abbotsford | 2015

Many of us gathered together to mark International Women's Day and One Billion Rising at Civic Plaza in Abbotsford on March 8, 2015 as a part of a worldwide movement to end violence against women and girls. It was a collective effort by all our respective partners to make this day possible which included: The Reach Gallery Museum, GirlKIND Foundation, The Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies at UFV, International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy, Peardonville House, Abbotsford Community Services, Women’s Resource Society of the Fraser Valley, Faculty and Staff Association at UFV, Business and Professional Women (BPW) and Canadian Federation of University Women’s Club.

During our outdoor part we danced in the beautiful sunshine, drummed, listened to one another and gained strength in each other. For our indoor part we screened the film "The Honor Diaries," the first film to break the silence on honor violence. Following the screening we held on panel discussion to further create dialogue. We were truly humbled and honored to have Raheel Raza as our guest speaker, she stars in the film.
Thank you to everyone for coming out and all of our sponsors!
